General Information and Answering the Summons

1. How was I selected for jury service?
Each twelvemonth a listing of potential jurors is created by combining the names from four lists. These lists are:

According to the Connecticut General Statutes, an individual may be randomly selected for jury service every court year (a court twelvemonth is September 1st to August 31st). Each year, Jury Administration creates a new master file from which jurors are randomly summoned. The master file consists of names of: licensed motor vehicle operators and State of Connecticut identification card holders; names of electors obtained from each town�s Registrar of Voters; names of persons who filed country income tax returns; and, names of individuals who received unemployment compensation. Each court twelvemonth your name may be randomly selected. If yous accept completed jury service within the past iii years and receive a summons for the new court year, you may elect to serve once more or you may choose to be butterfingers based on your previous service. In a random system, some individuals are selected many times, some only a few times and some never.

  • Copy of the obituary
  • Copy of a memorial or prayer bill of fare that provides the proper name of the deceased and date of death
  • Alphabetic character/notation written past a fellow member of a ministry building or clergy that provides the name of the deceased and date of death
  • Alphabetic character/note written by a staff member of a health care facility such as hospital, wellness care provider�s office, convalescent home, etc.
  • Alphabetic character from an attorney or Executor/Ambassador of the Decedent�southward Estate.

Preparing to Serve

viii. How do I confirm that I need to go to court on my scheduled date?
Jury Text Alerts are a convenient way to learn if your jury service has been cancelled by the courtroom. Jurors who sign upwards for this service will receive a text bulletin notifying them of the counterfoil. Y'all will only receive a Text Alert if your jury service has been cancelled by the court. If y'all practise not receive a text you should go to court equally scheduled. The Jury Text Alarm service is optional.

You can also check your attendance status online or by phone after five:30 p.m. the evening earlier y'all are scheduled to serve. If your service has been canceled you do not need to practise annihilation else. You have fulfilled your jury obligation for the court year in which y'all were summoned. A court year runs from September 1st to August 31st.

Requesting an Accommodation

12. Must employers let their employees to attend jury service?
Yes. Connecticut police force prohibits employers from dismissing, threatening or coercing employees who are summoned for jury service, respond to a jury summons, or serve as a juror (Department 51-247a of the Connecticut General Statutes).
